Chiropractic Care for Knee Injuries

Many of the most common injuries for athletes and individuals involve the knees. Overuse and accidental impacts can cause inflammation as well as damage to bones, tissue, and other parts of the knee. Strains and sprains happen all the time from falls or accidents and can be easily treated with proper protocols. Though many knee injuries are minor, some can be extremely debilitating. In addition, overexertion, effects of aging, and other factors contribute to knee pain and injuries. Luckily, chiropractic care is a safe and effective option to treat knee injuries.

Our experienced team at Idaho Chiropractic Group in Boise, ID can provide chiropractic care for a variety of knee injuries. Our chiropractors at Idaho Chiropractic Group will assess your conditions and determine the best course of treatment during your visit.

Different Knee Injuries

Some knee conditions are injury-related, while other problems such as osteoarthritis can develop over time. Here are some common knee injuries that can be treated through our chiropractic care:

  • Ligament injuries- ACL, MCL, PCL and LCL are common ligaments that can contribute to major pain inside or around the knee joint. All of these can be assessed via chiropractic exam.
  • Meniscus- The shock absorber between your femur and tibia is a common spot to have degenerative changes especially as we age.
  • Infrapatellar tendinopathy- right below your kneecap is a small linear tissue that helps your patella remain stable as we move. It is often irritated through high movement activities like walking, running, and cycling.
  • Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome and Chondromalacia Patellae- the kneecap has a lining of cartilage that can be worn down over time. Your repetitive movements can rub away this lining and cause it to be irritated.
  • Knee bursitis - There are small sacs of fluid that help cushion the part of the knee for ease of movement. When these bursae, as they are known, get inflamed, it can cause pain.
  • Dislocated knee - Some people are afflicted with this condition. It occurs when there is an injury between the tibia and femur. It can be very debilitating to the knee, affecting vessels and ligaments.
  • Frozen knee - This condition affects many people by the knee "locking" up and dramatically decreasing the range of motion. A prior injury or inflammation can contribute to frozen knees.
  • Arthritis - This common condition has different forms. It affects the knee by destroying and degrading cartilage which causes stiff joints and decreases mobility.
